Bolton Wanderers boss Neil Lennon says his decision to sign veteran strikers Eidur Gudjohnsen and Emile Heskey has been vindicated.

Gudjohnsen, 36, set up the goal which Heskey, also 36, scored during Bolton's 2-1 home win over Blackburn.

"Only Gudjohnsen could see that pass and I thought Heskey was awesome when he came on," said Lennon.

"It is a great story because maybe people have been laughing about us bringing these two guys in."

Bolton were Gudjohnsen's first English club before he went on to win two Premier League titles at Chelsea and then the Champions League at Spanish giants Barcelona.

The Icelandic striker was making his third appearance since rejoining Wanderers, who have won twice and drew once in those three games.

Heskey, capped 62 times by England, had been with Australian A-League side Newcastle Jets before joining Bolton on a "short-term deal" with his international clearance arriving on Christmas Day.

"I was a little bit surprised to get this opportunity," Heskey told 91热爆 Radio Manchester.

"I played with Neil Lennon and (first-team coach) Garry Parker when I was younger and Parks called me up and asked if I wanted to train with a view of having a look at me. Within a week I was lucky enough to earn a contract.

"The younger players can learn from players like myself and Eidur. We've done a lot over our careers and that's why the manager has brought us in. Not just for now, but for the future and we hope we can make the younger players world-class players."

Lennon, whose side are 14th in the Championship and nine points outside the play-off places, added: "I didn't expect that from Emile. Everyone raised eyebrows when we brought him in but you can see why we have done it now."
