Bournemouth chairman Jeff Mostyn paid tribute to the team after their historic 8-0 victory over Birmingham.

It was the first time they had scored eight in a league game, barring a 10-0 win in 1939 which was expunged after World War Two broke out the next day.

The result mirrored Southampton's demolition of Sunderland by the same score at St Mary's last week.

"It's incredible, and we had to go one better because we were away," Mostyn told 91热爆 Radio Solent.

The victory - Bournemouth's fourth league win in a row - lifts the Cherries up to fourth in the table, just two points behind Derby, Watford and Wolves who are all level on 26 points.

"It's practically a life highlight," added Mostyn.

"It's absolutely amazing, It's not just a game - being chairman of this football club at the moment is as good as it gets.

"That kind of performance has been due. The boys have been playing with superb confidence and we've always said that someone is going to get a really good beating sooner rather than later. For Birmingham it was just unfortunate it happened to be them.

"The whole demeanour is one of respect and that was clearly demonstrated on Saturday."

Mostyn, who missed the game at St Andrew's because he was travelling back from the Unites States, said he hoped the victory could be the catalyst to spur the Cherries to the Premier League.

"That would be unbelievable: everything we are doing at the club is working towards achieving our ambition of Premier League football but there is a long way to go," he said.

"While it was a record win, it was still only three points. Who knows, those eight goals may be worth an extra point. It's the best in the Championship, four wins on the bounce is a significant record.

"It was an amazing, outstanding performance delivered in a very, very professional manner."
