Mark Robins: Scunthorpe United appoint former Huddersfield boss

Scunthorpe United have confirmed Mark Robins as their new manager on a three-year contract.

The 44-year-old, who left Huddersfield one game into the season, replaces sacked Russ Wilcox at Glanford Park.

On Friday, Iron chairman Peter Swann told 91热爆 Radio Humberside Robins would be taking over at the League One strugglers this week.

"First and foremost I am delighted to be here, I was very encouraged by what I saw on Saturday," Robins said.

"The opportunity was too good to turn down because there are exciting times coming here.

"I want everyone to enjoy what we are doing and excite the supporters.

"You have to work hard and have the players buy in to what you are doing."

The Iron won at Gillingham on Saturday under the caretaker management of veteran defender Andy Dawson.

The win was not enough to move them out of the League One relegation zone but they are now just two points away from safety.

Robins, who has appointed former Nottingham Forest assistant David "Ned" Kelly as his number two, spent 18 months at the John Smith's Stadium and has also managed Rotherham, Barnsley and Coventry.

His first match in charge of Scunthorpe will be Saturday's home match against Colchester.
