Atletico Madrid have signed striker Mario Mandzukic from German champions Bayern Munich for an undisclosed fee.

The Croatia international, 28, has signed a four-year deal with the Spanish champions.

Mandzukic scored 33 goals in 54 Bundesliga games for Bayern after joining them from Wolfsburg in 2012.

He replaces Atletico's top scorer last season Diego Costa, who joined Chelsea for 拢32m after scoring 36 goals in 51 games for the Madrid club last year.

"We thank Mario for two great years here in Munich," said Bayern deputy chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen.

Bayern won seven titles during Mandzukic's stay in Bavaria, including a Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League treble in 2013.

Mandzukic played for Croatia at this summer's World Cup, scoring twice in their 4-0 Group A defeat of Cameroon, but was unable to help them progress beyond the group stage.

His move to Spain follows Bayern's signing of Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund, who agreed a five-year contract in January.

"I knew it was time to make the next step,'' said Poland international Lewandowski, who scored 74 goals in 131 league games for Dortmund.

"I know that every new player needs time but I hope the transition won't take long for me and that I'll be able to give my best from the first game."
