QPR: Andrew Johnson and Aaron Hughes head summer clear-out

QPR have released Andrew Johnson, Aaron Hughes and Stephane Mbia following the expiry of their contracts.

The club also confirmed the departure of former England full-back Luke Young, 34, along with Hogan Ephraim, Angelo Balanta and Tom Hitchcock.

Alejandro Faurlin has signed a one-year extension which keeps him at the club until the summer of 2015.

While Rob Green, Armand Traore, Bobby Zamora and Gary O'Neil are in talks over new deals.

QPR, promoted via the play-offs last term, begin the new Premier League season at home to Hull on 16 August.

Former England forward Johnson, 33, departs following a two injury-hit years in which he made just 24 appearances, scoring twice.

Ex-Newcastle and Fulham defender Hughes, 34, joined QPR on a short-term deal on deadline day in January and made 11 appearances.

Mbia, 28, spent last season on loan at Sevilla. He exits Loftus Road after making 32 appearances since joining from Marseille in 2012 as part of the deal that saw Joey Barton leave the R's for a loan spell in France.

QPR also confirmed loan players Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Ravel Morrison, Tom Carroll, Will Keane, Kevin Doyle, Niko Kranjcar and Modibo Maiga have returned to their parent clubs.
