Newport County: Darcy Blake deal 'dead in the water' - Edinburgh

Newport County boss Justin Edinburgh concedes Darcy Blake is unlikely to return to the club for next season.

The Wales defender left Crystal Palace in January and signed for County for the rest of the 2013-14 season.

The Exiles were hopeful of a permanent signing but Edinburgh admits that is now unlikely.

"I spoke with Darcy's representatives and I don't think that we could make the offer they were looking for," he said.

"I pretty much presume that's dead in the water.

"But I think that in the acquisitions that I've made in Darren Jones and Kevin Feely that they will more than make up for it."

Republic of Ireland Under-21 defender Feely has joined County on a free transfer following his release by Charlton Athletic.

The 21-year-old, who impressed during a loan spell from the Addicks this season, has signed a two-year deal after initially turning down a contract offer from the Exiles.

"I'm absolutely delighted that he's chosen us ahead of anything else," Edinburgh added.

"The boy's got a bright future and I think he's going to be a top player and I think we've got a real coup there."

Jones, 30, re-joins the Exiles from AFC Wimbledon having last played for County in 2005.

Edinburgh has also added midfielder Yan Klukowski from Forest Green Rovers to his squad ahead of their second season in League Two.
