Irish Premiership: Ballymena Utd 2-1 Glenavon

Ballymena won for just the second time in eight Irish Premiership matches thanks to two goals by Darren Boyce.

The former Coleraine striker scored the first in the 36th minute with Mark Patton's attempt to get the ball clear only helping it into the net.

Patton made amends with a lovely equaliser in the 63rd minute, a sweet curling shot into the top corner.

However, just five minutes later Boyce stretched to meet Ally Teggart's cross for Ballymena's winner.

The result meant Ballymena missed out on a place in the top six by four points.

Glenavon stay in sixth spot, although they have now suffered back-to-back defeats following on from Tuesday's 2-1 reverse away to Warrenpoint Town.

Gary Hamilton made six changes from that game, including starting himself.

But they fell behind when James McGrath cleared Jonny Taylor's effort off the line and Boyce fired it straight back, the shot being deflected into the roof of his own net by Patton.

The equaliser was pure quality with Patton making room to curl in a right-foot shot.

Boyce got the winner, though, with Boyce getting his second from Teggart's delivery.
