Derry City sign Scottish midfielder Jon-Paul McGovern
Derry City manager Roddy Collins has confirmed Scottish midfielder Jon-Paul McGovern has joined the club.
The 33-year-old's arrival makes him the new manager's 10th signing since taking over at the Brandywell.
McGovern has made over 300 appearances in the Scottish and English leagues playing for Sheffield Wednesday, Swindon, MK Dons and Carlisle United.
He joins Derry from non-league side Celtic Nation and is not expected to make his debut for several weeks.
Derry begin the new League of Ireland season away to Shamrock Rovers at the Tallaght Stadium on Sunday.
The Candystripes have a major injury concern over Barry McNamee, who has strained a knee ligament.
"This is when you really start working and trying to get your tactics right," said Collins.
"We start away to Rovers, but every game is tough - it's their home game so they're expected to win - we're not expected to win.
"I'm very happy with the squad I have here now, but only competitive games will show us how we can develop."
