Shrewsbury Town: Graham Turner on his New Year's resolution
Shrewsbury Town's long-serving manager Graham Turner says his only resolution for 2014 is to stay in his job.
Four straight home losses have put Town just a point clear of danger in League One going into the New Year's Day trip to Oldham Athletic.
Turner told 91热爆 Radio Shropshire: "You couldn't finish a 35-year career on what we're doing at the moment.
"If I'm still Shrewsbury Town manager this time next year I'll be delighted as it will mean we've done ok."
When asked what his New Year's resolution was for 2014, 66-year-old Turner, British professional football's longest-serving manager said simply: "Stay in a job."
Town have just kept their heads above water since Turner won the club promotion back to the third tier of English football in April 2012 for the first time in 15 years.
They operate on one of the lowest budgets in the division, fuelled by Turner's usual string of low-cost loan signings.
But, although they are yet to become a League One force and reawaken memories of their golden days 35 years ago when Turner led Town to what proved an astonishing 10-year stay in English football's old Division Two, the Salop manager is insistent that they should not be fearful of going back down.
"It has not even crossed my mind," he said. "We've got enough about us to get out of trouble, not a shadow of a doubt.
"I wake up in the mornings and still have that determination to put it right. That is a real driving force.
"I've had terrific support since I've been back here and I'd like to repay that support.
"From a personal point of view, there's a lot still to achieve."
Turner is also grateful for the difference that the Town fans make when they get behind their team, especially away from home.
"Our away support is terrific," he added. "It always has been.
"And, at home, it helps if the team are playing well but the supporters respond when the bigger teams come here and it makes for a lot better atmosphere.
"We need that continued support and we'll put things right."
