Richard Lee: Brentford not too disheartened by start
Brentford goalkeeper Richard Lee says the squad must not let their start to the season affect their performances.
The Bees have lost two of their opening eight games in League One and manager Uwe Rosler has admitted the side "are not where we want to be".
"You have to have a bigger view of it all and that's what we are trying to do," Lee told 91热爆 London 94.9.
"We haven't been at our best but we have played reasonably well. I don't think we need to get too disheartened."
The 30-year-old stopper added: "It is still very early. Provided you keep playing well and create more chances than the opposition, you'd like to think over the course of the season you will win more than you lose."
"We need to be confident in what we have got in our squad."
After losing in the play-off final last season and strengthening their squad over the summer, the Griffin Park outfit had been considered among the contenders for promotion to the second tier.
Lee says it is inevitable that others will expect the club to be in and around the play-off places.
"I think naturally that will happen," he said. "We have improved year on year and have put a bit more money into what we are doing. We put in a good display last season but at the same time people need to be realistic.
"If we do make the play-offs that will be very good. Automatic promotion would be incredible."
This month the former Watford trainee returned to first-team action after six months out with a shoulder injury.
Summer signing David Button is back from suspension after Sunday's game away to Coventry and Lee hopes he can retain his place in the side after a frustrating spell on the sidelines.
"It has been the longest and hardest injury I have ever had to come back from," Lee said.
"The shoulder joint being as it is, there are so many different movements that you need to master before you can come back in.
"To be back involved and playing again has been great. It has made the last six months or so worthwhile.
"It has been a frustrating year and a half with injury. I've been struggling with the injury for some time but I do feel now I can mount a serious challenge.
"It's a case of keep improving and putting in good displays when I do get a chance."
