Oldham 1-1 Crewe

Oliver Turton scored his first senior goal as Crewe Alexandra claimed a hard-earned point at Oldham.

The 20-year-old midfielder smashed home a low drive from 20 yards on 13 minutes to put the visitors ahead.

Latics forward Charlie MacDonald then hit the post from Sidney Schmeltz's cross before levelling with a volley from six yards on 54 minutes.

Alex keeper Steve Phillips - making his 600th career appearance - then denied James Dayton to secure a draw.

Crewe also had opportunities, teenagers Max Clayton and Ryan Colclough both forcing saves from Mark Oxley.

"We've got to get back to the basics, and we did. That's the hard work, chasing things down and back to the pressurising.

"We had a go and tried to win and didn't give the game away. We looked really solid at the back.

"I thought we played some really good football, we linked up well and the understanding between the players was very good. We didn't quite hurt them enough in the second half in the last third, but neither did they."
