Manchester United manager David Moyes believes his side produced their best performance of the season at Anfield, despite being beaten 1-0 by Liverpool.

Daniel Sturridge continued his fine start to the campaign by scoring the goal which brought about the defending Premier League champions' first defeat.

"It's the best we've played this season. I wouldn't be worried if I didn't add to the squad," said Moyes.

The Scot was referring to the transfer window closing at 23:00 BST on Monday.

United continue to be linked with Everton duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines after having a 拢28m joint bid rejected last month.

Earlier this summer, they also had an offer turned down for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Moyes said: "We will try [to bring new players in] but from what I saw of the players, I'm more than happy with the players I've got."

After starting the Premier League season with a win against Swansea, United shared a goalless draw with Chelsea on Monday night.

Defeat by old rivals Liverpool was Moyes' first competitive defeat since taking over from Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

"I thought we played really well," said Moyes. "We had long periods of the game but couldn't score. Apart from the lapse in concentration for their goal, we played well.

"We got two or three opportunities but it was unfortunate we didn't take them.

"I thought Danny Welbeck got kicked in the back of the leg, for me it was a penalty."

Moyes admitted he was unsure about the severity of ankle injury picked up by Phil Jones.
