Malky Mackay says he hopes to add another two players to Cardiff City's squad before the transfer window closes on 2 September.

The Cardiff manager completed his fifth summer signing with the capture of Sevilla midfielder Gary Medel.

And Mackay said there would be further additions if the right players were available.

"We're still looking and trying but it will only be players I feel that are going to improve the group," he said.

"Like everyone else, with three weeks still to go in the window, [we're] looking to see if there's anyone that can improve our squad.

"We've got various irons in the fire at the moment and they're all moving along and progressing at different levels.

"If we could at least get another two, then that would help."

Cardiff have broken their transfer record for a third time this summer after the completing the signing of Chile midfielder Medel.

The 26-year-old has joined Cardiff on a four-year deal, subject to his gaining a work permit.

Medel was present to watch Cardiff conclude their pre-season ahead of the Premier League opener at West Ham next Saturday with a 2-1 home win over Athletic Bilbao.

Peter Whittingham and Frazier Campbell scored for Cardiff, who had midfielder Aron Gunnarsson back in their line-up.

Gunnarsson suffered a shoulder injury while on international duty with Iceland in June and Mackay was pleased with his Cardiff comeback.

"[He] came through that well and I was delighted with that because he finished the season so well," Mackay added.

"We were really disappointed in the Iceland game where he had the injury which obviously was a setback for him.

"But over the last few weeks our medical team have worked ever so hard with him during the close season when everyone was off on holiday.

"He's got his fitness levels to the point where he's back playing against real top players."
