David Moyes' first game at Manchester United ends in defeat
David Moyes suffered defeat in his first match in charge of Manchester United as they were beaten 1-0 by the Singha All Stars in Thailand.
Teeratep Winothai scored the only goal on 50 minutes at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, beating Ben Amos at his near post.
"It wasn't a brilliant result but this wasn't one we desperately needed to win," said Moyes.
"It is one we needed to get prepared to win games."
Wilfried Zaha, who signed from Crystal Palace last season, and 18-year-old Adnan Januzaj were both given debuts by Moyes and came the closest to finding the target.
Following Wayne Rooney's return to England for treatment and the absence of Javier Hernandez, Robin van Persie and Nani, it was an opportunity for the youngsters to impress.
"Wilfried did well," said Moyes. "He gave us something different.
"We have brought him here to give him a chance. It is the first time I have worked with him and had a chance to see him up close.
"He will certainly be part of the squad and we will see where we can fit him in as often as we can."
Januzaj, signed from Anderlecht in July 2011, was given a squad number for Sir Alex Ferguson's final game in charge of United in May.
"It is always good when you give a young player a chance and he shows up. He did that tonight," added Moyes.
"The more he plays like that the more opportunities he is likely to get."
United now travel to Sydney, where Van Persie and David de Gea will join the squad. They are scheduled to play matches in five different countries before beginning their Premier League title defence on 17 August.
