Jean Beausejour: Wigan Athletic defender doubtful for FA Cup final

Wigan's Jean Beausejour could miss the FA Cup final against Manchester City after being injured during the Latics' dramatic 3-2 win against West Brom.

The defender, 28, was carried off on a stretcher and is a doubt for the final at Wembley next Saturday, 11 May.

"He has pulled a hamstring, we have to assess him but it doesn't look great," said Wigan manager Roberto Martinez.

"These sort of injuries normally take 10 days but we will see if we can get some magic hands working on him."

Wigan twice fought back from a goal down against the Baggies before snatching a winner through Callum McManaman's 80th-minute goal.

It left the Latics 18th in the Premier League with three games remaining, but only two points behind 17th-placed Sunderland and three points behind both Newcastle and Norwich.

"If we stay up it would be like winning the title," added Martinez.

"We have worked really hard for two months to get in the position where, with two weeks of the season left, we are still involved in two competitions.

"To come back twice is huge. We showed our character and never accepted defeat.

"Last week we dropped two points [against Tottenham] but we learned from that and showed great composure.

"To score three goals in open play is very pleasing and I don't think anyone else has done that against them this season."

Wigan had only taken two points from their last four league games, including matches against Manchester City and Tottenham, but Martinez believes his side had been unlucky.

He said: "We have played better than the scores have shown. What is difficult is maintaining those levels when the results have not been coming.

"Even today we went 1-0 and 2-1 down but we never died and we deserved the three points."

Wigan's next match is at home to Swansea in the Premier League on Tuesday, before the Cup final next Saturday.

The Latics then travel to Arsenal three days later before ending the season with a home game against Aston Villa on 19 May.
