Nigel Worthington extends York City contract

York City boss Nigel Worthington has signed a new contract at Bootham Crescent after helping them retain their League Two status.

The former Norwich and Northern Ireland boss joined the Minstermen after the sacking of Gary Mills in March.

He won four of his 10 games to keep the side in the Football League.

"It is a club with great potential and I believe we can do special things here," the 51-year-old

"I want to thank everyone at York City, including our fans, for making me feel so welcome and supporting me during the last ten games of the season.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead and building a good squad for the future."

Chairman Jason McGill added: "We were only interested in one person taking this club forward and that is Nigel Worthington. During his time in charge of our last 10 games of the season he displayed exceptional managerial skills and impressed us with his work ethic and total professionalism."

Worthington will be assisted by former Bradford and Scunthorpe striker Steve Torpey.
