Macclesfield: Joe Anyon set for FA Cup debut after loan move

Joe Anyon could make his Macclesfield debut against Wigan in the FA Cup fourth round after joining the non-league side on loan from Shrewsbury.

The Silkmen's regular goalkeeper, Lance Cronin, suffered a suspected broken thumb in training and Anyon has been signed on a seven-day emergency loan.

Anyon, 26, moved to Shrewsbury in July but has only played once for the club in a Football League Trophy tie.

Unattached striker Dean McDonald also joined Macclesfield on Friday.

The former Ipswich and Gillingham man, 26, played under manager Steve King at both Northwich and Farnborough, and had been on trial with the club in pre-season.

Macclesfield are one of two non-league teams left in the FA Cup.

The Silkmen and Luton [who face Norwich] are both taking on Premier League opposition and are hoping to become the first non-league sides to defeat a top-flight team in the FA Cup since Sutton United beat Coventry in 1989.

King, who saw his team beat Championship leaders Cardiff in round three, told 91热爆 North West Tonight: "We're in the last 32 of the FA Cup. It's amazing for a club of our size.

"Can we go one step further? Anything can happen. The preparations have been really good this week.

"We're not expected to do anything but we're going to give it the best we can.

"The lads were disappointed that it wasn't a live game on the television - I think they've earned that right - but it's the biggest day of their careers to play against Premier League opposition."
