Romain Vincelot scored the only goal of the game on his debut as Gillingham beat AFC Wimbledon to move five points clear at the top of League Two.

The midfielder, who joined on loan from Brighton this week, fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the area midway through the first half.

The home side rallied after the break with George Francomb and Rashid Yussuff going close for the Dons.

Steven Gregory shot wide late on as the Gills held on to take all three points.

Wimbledon have now only won once in four games since Neal Ardley took charge at Kingsmeadow earlier this month.

"I saw a team that played with fear. I saw a team that didn't know how to see themselves through a difficult situation.

"It was against the wind and we got caught between two stools.

"We didn't win our battles enough and I think there was a little bit too much respect shown. We were lucky to come in at 1-0 down."

Gillingham manager Martin Allentold 91热爆 Radio Kent:

"The last home game they had they were 3-0 up after half an hour and you can see why, but all our players showed tremendous courage.

"Everyone defended and stood firm. We've played better football, but every man stood up to the test, and all credit to their strength of mind to defend that solitary goal.

"The wind was a massive factor but it was a quality finish and it was enough to win it."
