Celtic manager Neil Lennon said his players demonstrated character to snatch a late point against Ross County in the league.

A Kris Commons strike in the fourth minute of added time cancelled out Richard Brittain's second half free-kick to give Celtic a point.

"I'm delighted," said Lennon. "We showed great character.

"We were missing simple chances, which seems to be a bugbear of the team. I'm pleased to come away unbeaten."

Brittain opened the scoring for County - their first goal in the Scottish Premier League - with an expertly struck free-kick just four minutes into the second half.

Celtic, who had several players absent due to injury, struck the County woodwork on either side of the interval and it looked as though the Dingwall side were heading for a memorable win in the top flight.

However, Commons scooped the ball into the net to save the champions' blushes, and Lennon insisted his players deserved to get something ahead of this week's forthcoming Champions League qualifier against Helsingborgs.

"You never say never, and when we missed the quality of chances we had we were thinking it might not be our day," said Lennon.

"The players showed great character, which should give them a boost going into Tuesday, although we'll be expecting a far better performance overall, and I think we'll get it.

"We were just a bit pedestrian with the ball at times, that was all. We created good chances in the first half and then in the second half we battered away and we had a lot of corners and free-kicks.

"The over-riding emotion is that I'm pleased. We're 11 players and four strikers short; to come away not losing the game is good."
