Shrewsbury's Jon Taylor has admitted to taking the game more seriously after a warning from boss Graham Turner.

Taylor, 19, scored twice on his full debut against Burton in February 2011 and became a first team regular at the Greenhous Meadow last season.

However, this season he has found it tougher going and did not make a league start until 17 December.

"The gaffer told me to change my attitude. He was right. I expected too much," he told 91�ȱ� Radio Shropshire.

"So I've had a look at myself, had a word with myself and now I'm working much harder."

Taylor's two debut goals were the first of six in 24 appearances for the Shrews in 2010/11.

He says his second year in the Shrewsbury first team has been a much more difficult experience.

"I came a long way in a quick time so all that was totally unexpected, but then to come back this season and not start a game until recently was hard.

"Just coming off the bench for the last 15 minutes is obviously tough, but I spoke to the manager, he told me what he expected and then what I had to do."

Taylor was rewarded for his renewed attitude with a recall to the starting XI for the 1-0 home win over Macclesfield and retained his place for Monday's 0-0 draw with Cheltenham.

"I've changed," he added. "I'm more relaxed and I understand the game more - and what the gaffer's done has helped me a lot.

"Now I want to play regularly for the rest of the season, and help the club to promotion.

"I believe we have the best squad in League Two."
