Kenya kept their hopes of playing in the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup quarter-finals alive after beating Ethiopia 2-0 in Tanzania on Wednesday.

They now have three points after losing their first game to Malawi.

Bob Mugalia opened the scoring after 12 minutes and Yusuph Juma sealed the score on stroke of half-time.

The game was played amid a heavy downpour, which denied the Ethiopians an opportunity to play their free-flowing passing game.

Meanwhile, Malawi were held to a goalless draw by Sudan, the only team at the Cecafa Cup who will contest January's Africa Cup of Nations.

The results means all the four sides in Group C have got a chance of qualifying for the quater-finals.

"The group is still wide open so, we will approach the last game cautiosly and hopefully we will advance," Malawi coach Kinnah Phiri said after Wednesday's game.

"Cecafa is more organised and it gives us an opportunity to play competitive football compared to Cosafa, so I am gratefully to be participating as a guest team."

Malawi will play Ethiopia in Friday's final group game and a draw will be enough to send the Flames to the quater-final.

The group's other game, also to be played on Friday, is between Sudan and Kenya.
