Torquay United striker Rene Howe says a new sense of team unity is the reason for the club's upturn in form.

The Gulls have won their last three matches scoring nine goals and keeping three clean sheets after a run of eight matches without a win.

"We've done a lot more team stuff," Howe told 91�ȱ� Radio Devon.

"Before we weren't doing a lot of team stuff, we were going off in our different directions so we decided we needed a bit of a change."

"Lee Mansell and I have organised paintball, things like that, and it's been a key factor to us having more team togetherness in recent games.

"We've recognised that it has helped us and we all want to play for each other."

Howe has scored seven goals in 17 games after joining the Gulls in the summer.

Before that the 25-year-old former Peterborough United and Kettering striker had spells on loan at six different clubs and he says the chance to settle down in one place has helped his game develop.

"The main point where I was probably struggling in places I was on loan at was that I didn't have a base - I was mainly in hotels and living here, there and everywhere.

"I've got my place down here with Danny Leadbitter and we're happy there and we can just concentrate on football."
