Sheffield Wed 3-1 Chesterfield

Sheffield Wednesday leapt into second place with a win that gave them their best home league start for 30 years.

Wednesday began brightly and their pressure was rewarded when Ben Marshall's cross was headed home from six yards by defender Lewis Buxton.

Gary Madine's speculative shot doubled the lead but Chesterfield hit back with former Owls striker Leon Clarke side-footing home from a corner.

However, Marshall secured the points with a low shot into the bottom corner.

"I thought we started really brightly, took a deserved lead. I thought we had opportunities before that to score and then we didn't get the ball down and play well enough once we'd got that lead.

"Chesterfield scored against us, they had us on the rack for about 10 to 15 minutes but we're thankful that we got through that period.

"It's a good start, we've played six games at Hillsborough and there's been some good performances."

Chesterfield manager John Sheridan told 91热爆 Radio Sheffield:

"I thought we played really, really well. We've lost the game 3-1 so I've said it a few times what I think of our performances and we don't really get what we deserve out of the game and I think that's what happened today.

Audio captionWe totally outplayed Wednesday - Sherdian

"We played really well and how we've conceded three goals I just don't know but we have.

"I thought we were the better team. They scored three and we got one but I thought we totally outplayed them. We know what their strengths are, we know what they were all about but the second and third goals were a joke on our part."
