Cambridge United have signed defender Michael Wylde from Tamworth on a free transfer, with Wylde agreeing a two-year deal.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Lambs from Cheltenham in 2008, made 40 appearances in the Blue Square Bet Premier this season.

He becomes boss Jez George's second signing of the summer after midfielder Tom Shaw's arrival from Kidderminster.

"I spoke to Jez and he sold the club to me," Wylde told the .

"I've also spoken to Tom Shaw as we played together at Tamworth, and he's really sold the club to me too so we're both looking forward to the new season."

George added: "Michael fits our criteria for players we are trying to attract to the club.

"He is the right age, is proven at this level but has the ambition and potential to play higher.

"Michael is an excellent defender, has a good physical presence, is dominant in the air and, being naturally left footed, will give us balance within our defensive options.

"I am delighted that Michael has decided to join Cambridge United for the right reasons ahead of other more financially lucrative options elsewhere."
