Lapthorne and Shuker win openers at Australian Open
Britain's Andy Lapthorne and Lucy Shuker both made winning starts in the Australian Open wheelchair tennis events.
Lapthorne beat American Nick Taylor 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 in the first of his round-robin quad singles matches.
He will next face world number one and defending champion David Wagner on Thursday.
Shuker defeated home favourite Daniela Di Toro 2-6 6-4 6-4 in the women's singles quarter-final.
The Briton, the world number seven, recovered from losing the opening set to overcome the player ranked one place below her.
"Had a tough match in windy conditions but very happy to come through,"
Shuker will meet second seed Sabine Ellerbrock of Germany in the last four. The pair met six times in singles in 2012 with the German winning on each occasion.
