PDC Darts: Simon Whitlock beats Ian White to reach semi-finals
Fourth seed Simon Whitlock beat Ian White in a pulsating quarter-final match to reach the semi-finals of the PDC World Championship.
The Australian was taken to a deciding set by Stoke thrower White but broke the Englishman's throw twice as he wrapped up a 5-4 victory.
"I actually have a tear in my eye now. I'm over the moon to win it," 2010 runner-up Whitlock told Sky Sports.
Whitlock will play Scotland's Peter Wright, after he beat Wes Newton 5-4.
The colourful Scotsman was chasing the game after Newton quickly opened a 2-0 lead, but he fought back and went 4-3 ahead by taking the seventh set
It was a third quarter-final exit in four years for world number eight Newton as Wright held his nerve in the final set tie-breaker to convert a 121 checkout, finishing on the bull.
Last year's runner-up Michael van Gerwen edged past Gary Anderson, hitting a brilliant 174 before closing on double eight at the first attempt to win their last-16 match 4-3.
The Dutchman will play Mark Webster, who defeated five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld on Friday, for a place in the last four.
Two-time world champion Adrian Lewis won nine of the first 11 legs of his last-16 match against Mervyn King before running out a comfortable 4-1 winner.
Lewis faces James Wade, who ended Devon Petersen's fine run with a straightforward 4-0 victory.
