Paul Jackson breaks Guernsey 24-hour cycling record

Paul Jackson has broken Guernsey's 24-hour time trial record after winning the veterans section of the British 24-hour Time Trial Championships.

The 48-year-old finished fourth overall after riding 477.48 miles, beating the old island record by over 26 miles.

"I am absolutely over the moon with the result," he said after the race.

"I spent the last few hours vowing to myself I would never ride a 24 hour TT again, I find myself already thinking of ways to improve for the next one."

Jackson averaged a speed of just under 20 miles per hour, despite making an error early on in the event.

"My own race didn't go anything like to plan, my pacing strategy was a disaster and my nutrition plan fell apart just six hours into the race," he added.

"I have to thank my crew for keeping me fed and getting me through one or two pretty bleak moments through the night, especially when the rain came down and the temperature dropped."
