Mark Cavendish & Lizzie Armitstead head Nationals fields

Former world champion Mark Cavendish and Olympic silver medallist Lizzie Armitstead lead the fields announced for this month's in Scotland.

Cavendish, the 2011 world road race champion and 23-time Tour de France stage winner, has never won a national road race title.

Armitstead will be looking to reclaim the road race title she won in 2011.

The time trial will take place on 20 June with the road race on 23 June.

Cavendish will be up against a strong Team Sky outfit in the road race, including defending champion Ian Stannard, last year's Tour of Britain winner Jon Tiernan-Locke and Olympic team pursuit champion Peter Kennaugh.

Also entered in both the road race and time trials are Wiggle Honda's Olympic team pursuit champions Laura Trott, Joanna Rowsell and Dani King, while junior time trial world champion Elinor Barker will be taking part in her first elite-level national time trial championship.

In the men's time trial, Alex Dowsett will be hoping to defend his title but will face stiff competition from 2011 silver medallist Steve Cummings, as well as Andrew Tenant and Matthew Bottrill.

The time trial course is in Stewarton, East Ayrshire, with the women covering two laps of a 17km course while the men will race two laps of a 24km course.

The road race will start and finish at Glasgow Green and will feature elements of the proposed route for the 2014 Commonwealth Games road race.
