Tennant named Essex Women team director
Andy Tennant has been named as Essex Women team director for the new professional domestic structure which will operate from next year.
Tennant was formerly head coach of Sunrisers, who won this summer's final Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy under the old regional format.
He will again work alongside Danni Warren, who has been appointed as performance director by Essex.
"Having worked with Danni and the majority of the staff and players at Sunrisers, I know the strength and potential of the team we鈥檙e building here," said Tennant.
鈥淥ur focus will be on creating an environment where players and staff can thrive and fulfil their potential, both on and off the field.
鈥淭his is a fantastic opportunity to drive towards sustainable success and help Essex Women become a leading force in the game."
Essex will compete against Durham, Hampshire, Lancashire, Nottinghamshire - who will be known as The Blaze - Somerset, Surrey and Warwickshire after all were awarded Tier 1 status by the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Glamorgan and Yorkshire will join them in 2027 as part of an expansion.
Women's teams will take part alongside the men in next summer's T20 Blast and One-Day Cup for the first time, but details have yet to be released about a red-ball competition.
Essex have, meanwhile, confirmed that Sunrisers all-rounders Jo Gardner and Kelly Castle and seam bowlers Eva Gray and Sophie Munro have signed contracts with them for the 2025 season.
