Kent batter Compton signs new one-year deal

Opening batter Ben Compton has signed a one-year contract extension with Kent.

The 30-year-old scored 833 runs at an average of 32.03 as the club were relegated from County Championship Division One last season.

Grandson of England great Denis Compton, he began his Kent career with centuries in his first three first-class innings.

"I'm really pleased to be staying at Kent for the foreseeable future," Compton told the

"I think I can speak for the group in saying that we are all very hungry and determined to bounce back after a very difficult season for the club as a whole.

"This attitude will be key and I hope to do my part in putting in strong performances for Kent in 2025."

Left-hand batter Compton began his career at Nottinghamshire before joining Kent for the 2022 season. He has also represented Mountaineers in Zimbabwe.

He has scored a total of 4,524 runs in first-class cricket at an average of 43.50, as well as holding a List A average of 45.72 after making 1,143 runs in 25 innings.
