Northamptonshire wicketkeeper Lewis McManus has extended his contract until the end of the 2025 season.

The 29-year-old had a difficult summer in 2023, scoring only 185 runs in 11 Championship appearances as Northants were relegated from Division One.

He joined the club from Hampshire in 2022 and has taken 257 catches in all formats during his career.

"After a frustrating season last year, I'm feeling really optimistic about the upcoming campaign," he said.

McManus will have extra responsibility this summer, having been named as County Championship vice-captain behind new skipper Luke Procter.

Head coach John Sadler described McManus as a "model professional" and "a leader in the dressing room".

"Last year was tough for him, but he's taken himself off to India and we've made some technical changes to his game which we're already seeing positive signs from and he's ready to really kick on," Sadler added.

Northamptonshire start their County Championship Division Two campaign away to Sussex on 5 April.
