County Championship: Michael Yardy century in final Hove match
Michael Yardy marked his final match at Hove with a century as Sussex secured maximum batting points on another day truncated by rain on the south coast.
The left-hander, 34, who is retiring at the end of the season, struck 104 - his 23rd first-class century.
Chris Jordan hit five fours and a six in his 42 as Sussex made 409 all out.
Ex-England opener Marcus Trescothick fired a rapid unbeaten 53 as Somerset reached 114-2 in reply - 295 behind - when rain ended play prematurely.
After delays on day one, the second day's proceedings began 90 minutes late at 12:00 BST.
Sussex resumed on 303-6 but only five had been added when Ashar Zaidi was trapped lbw by Jamie Overton in the second over for 91, ending a seventh-wicket partnership with Yardy of 137.
Yardy moved into the 90s with four fours in 12 balls and duly completed his second hundred in three matches before leaving the field to a warm reception after falling to the medium pace of Peter Trego.
That left Sussex needing 41 with two wickets left to claim maximum batting bonus points and Jordan reached the magic 400 figure in style with a six.
With both teams level on 146 points going into the penultimate match of the season - 11 clear of Hampshire who occupy the last of the relegation places - maximum batting points could prove key for Sussex in a contest likely to be nullified by the weather.
Somerset skipper Trescothick struck eight fours in his 118th first-class fifty before rain intervened.
Sussex all-rounder Michael Yardy:
"I was a bit nervous this morning, thinking I want to get to a hundred, and it was nice because I scored quite quickly, whereas last night it was quite a slow period.
"I was very nervous, even from the 80s, because it was a real goal of mine.
"It was a bit emotional out there because I've played here all my life from the age of 11. It's a bit sad that it's coming to an end, but it's nice to go out in a good way."
