Essex v Glamorgan: Goodwin & Wright hold up home side

Promotion-chasing Essex were frustrated by the weather in their key game with Glamorgan at Chelmsford, where only 42 overs were possible because of rain.

After winning the toss and putting the visitors in, David Masters took two early wickets to reduce them to 7-2.

But in between the showers, Murray Goodwin (48no) and Ben Wright (44no) shared an unbroken second wicket stand of 96 to take Glamorgan to 103-2.

Third-placed Essex need a win to keep alive their Division Two promotion bid.

Lancashire have already secured a place in Division One for next season and Northants hold a 21-point advantage over Essex in the race for the second spot.

Meanwhile, Essex all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate will not play for the club again this season after joining Otago Volts.

The New Zealand side are competing in the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 tournament which starts on 17 September in India.
