Essex release Billy Godleman and Michael Comber

Essex have released left-handed batsman Billy Godleman and second XI all-rounder Michael Comber.

Godleman, 23, joined from Middlesex in 2009, while Comber, 22, came through the county's youth schemes.

Head coach Paul Grayson said: "This is a time when we have to release players from the club and it is never an easy decision to make.

"We would like to thank them for their commitment and effort throughout their careers for the county."

Godleman said: "I have loved playing for the county, and have made some special friends amongst players, staff, members and supporters.

"I wish all the players well, and look forward to the opportunity of establishing myself at a new club, where I hope to fulfill all of my ambitions, on and off the field of play."

Godleman has played 69 first-class matches and averages 30.23 with the bat, hitting five centuries.

Comber has made two first-class appearances for Essex, taking four wickets at an average of 23.5, and top-scoring 19.
