Sean Ervine hits century to rescue Hampshire against Glamorgan

Sean Ervine hit an unbeaten century to help rescue Hampshire from trouble against Glamorgan at the Rose Bowl.

Having slumped to 96-5, with Ervine yet to score, he stayed to the end to hit an unbeaten 106 as the home side were eventually bowled out for 316.

The Zimbabwean batsman shared stands of 63 for the sixth wicket with Michael Bates (41) and a jaunty 85 for the last wicket with David Balcombe (39).

Glamorgan then ground their way to 13-0 in the seven overs before the close.

"Glamorgan's young seam attack did well to restrict Hampshire to 96-5 and then 204-8. But the home side recovered to reach 316 all out as the last two wickets put on 112 - the tenth wicket 85.

"On a green looking pitch there was plenty of movement for the quicker bowlers early on and justified Mark Wallace's decision to bowl first after he had won the toss.

"Sean Ervine, who made 109 not out, led Hampshire's fight back but he was dropped from a difficult chance to wicketkeeper Mark Wallace first ball and then from a straightforward chance to long on when he'd made 76.

"Glamorgan had an awkward seven overs to face at the end of the day - they reached 13 without loss."
