Brendan Nash century puts Kent on top against Yorkshire

An unbeaten century by Brendan Nash left Kent on top against Yorkshire.

Going in after Yorkshire seamer Ajmal Shahzad had dismissed Kent openers Scott Newman and Sam Northeast, Nash received solid backing from Ben Harmison (43) and Geraint Jones (47).

Ryan Sidebottom took two wickets to reduce Kent to 235-6, but James Tredwell, finished 28 not out, gave Nash sensible support.

The 34-year-old hit 14 fours in going to 114 off 186 deliveries at the close.

"Definitely Kent's day, and particularly Brendan Nash's day.

"Many Kent fans raised eyebrows when he became their overseas signing for the season, but he certainly raised his profile with a composed, unhurried century.

"Conditions weren't as tricky for the batsmen as they were on day one, but Yorkshire bowled tightly throughout and had the better of the second session taking four wickets. Kent replied with two big partnerships that put them on top going into day three.

"Both captains will be keeping an eye on the weather forecast for the weekend, particularly Kent's Geraint Jones who may have to encourage his batters to score quickly to try and make a winning total if rain curtails the remaining playing time."
