Scotland will host England for the third time in a one-day international, Cricket Scotland has announced.

The match will be played on 12 August 2012 at an unconfirmed venue.

Cricket Scotland chief executive Roddy Smith said: ''It is fantastic news that England will again by heading north to take on the Scotland side in an ODI.

"The match will be a highlight of our season. The game in 2010 was a great occasion and we will start our planning for next year's game immediately."

That last match was played in front of 4,000 fans in Edinburgh.

A century opening partnership by Andrew Strauss and Craig Kieswetter in reply to Scotland's 211 helped ease the visitors to a win on that occasion.

The previous encounter, in 2008, was abandoned because of torrential rain.

Scotland captain Gordon Drummond is also excited at the prospect of facing England.

"Those of us that played last year can't wait to have another opportunity to take on England," he said.

"For our young side, it will be another important step forward as we seek to continue our rise up the world rankings."

Scotland are currently facing Namibia in a series of two one-day fixtures after drawing with their hosts in a four-day Intercontinental Cup match.
