Glamorgan troubles worry Sir Viv Richards

Cricket legend Sir Viv Richards admits he was concerned by the recent upheaval at former county Glamorgan.

Last November coach Matthew Maynard, captain Jamie Dalrymple and president Peter Walker resigned in protest after .

"Matthew I hear left in a particular way, which I think wasn't... pleasing to a lot of the fans," Richards said.

"I don't know the full story behind what would have taken place for all this falling out and things like that."

Glamorgan replaced Dalrymple as captain with South African overseas signing Petersen, without consulting either director of cricket Maynard or Dalrymple himself.

Maynard , while and soon followed suit.

Glamorgan's Sofia Gardens home has undergone a 拢10m redevelopment to enable it to become the international standard Swalec Stadium, in 2009.

But in June Glamorgan were to host England's 2012 Test with the West Indies, after the county said it would be late paying the fee owed for .

Glamorgan just missed out on promotion from County Championship Division Two in 2010 but are out of contention this season, while the Welsh county has failed to make an impact in shorter forms of the game.

"When you have things like that and people who would have been the backbone of a county which did matter in the past, and they're not there any more for some reason, something must be wrong," Richards added.

"I'm always concerned for any team that I would play for, the same as I did when I was at Somerset.

"You've been part of the fabric of that whole environment and when things don't quite work according to plan, the success factor, you do not see the things that I know fans enjoy, it's always pretty worrying.

"You try and find out... as best as you can on exactly where did it go wrong.

"Maybe my trip here will give me [the opportunity to] gather a little bit more information I suppose what went wrong and the culprits and the folks who are responsible."

The 59-year-old former West Indies batsman played for the Welsh side in 1990, 1992 and 1993, helping them claim the Sunday League title in 1993.
