Paddy Barnes wins World Series bout but Michael Conlan is beaten
Paddy Barnes won his opening World Series of Boxing bout on Saturday but there was disappointment for his fellow Belfastman Michael Conlan in Baku.
Barnes earned a unanimous win over Magomed Ibiyev at light flyweight but Conlan lost on all three cards against Magomed Gurabov.
The two Irish Olympic medallists were representing the Italia Thunder team against the Baku Fires in Azerbaijan.
Barnes was the only Italia Thunder winner as Baku took a 4-1 victory.
Irish head coach Billy Walsh and Conlan's father John were both working in the Belfast boxers' corner in Saturday's contests.
