Britain's Savannah Marshall saw her world title defence end with defeat in her opening bout at the Women's World Championships in Jeju, Korea.

The 23-year-old, who won the title in 2012 and also claimed Commonwealth gold this year, lost 2:0 to Russian Yaroslava Yakushina in the 75kg class.

However, Sandy Ryan surged into the 64kg quarter-finals with a 3:0 win over Turkey's Gulsum Tatar.

Lisa Whiteside beat Thailand's Sopida Satumrum to reach the 51kg last eight.

After her 2:0 success, she now faces Canadian Mandy Bujold on Friday.
