Marie Buchanan: Devon paddleboarder retains world title
Marie Buchanan has retained her long-distance title at the ICF Stand Up Paddling World Championships.
The paddler from Salcombe, Devon won the 50+ Masters 10km event in Pattaya in Thailand, finishing more than five-and-a-half minutes clear of Italy's Anna Occhiogrosso, who came second.
Buchanan has high hopes of a second medal in the technical category, having won a silver at that event in 2022.
She has already claimed a sixth-placed finish in the sprint events this year.
"It was super tough today and I'm so pleased to have got the gold medal," she said.
"There were people from all over the world that I've never raced before, so it was a real unknown phenomenon coming here.
"I managed to lead the race from the start, I got a very good start and played the wind, cut things short and managed to make the most of it."
