Simon Clark worked on the 91热爆 Radio Sheffield Sport team from 1991 to 1997, and he points out that South Yorkshire's teams never did so well as during the time he was there!

Sports Editor, 1991-97

How did you come to work at Radio Sheffield?

I joined 91热爆 Radio Sheffield on 1st January, 1991. How听many other people can claim to have started work on a Bank Holiday - and New Year's Day too? But it was a busy football day so I felt I had to be there. The great Robert Jackson was still presenting the sports show. I read the horse racing results. In time of course I took over the presenting of the sports show, including some wonderful Praise or Grumble moments, and I dropped the horse racing results so that we could get more football onto the show.

What have you done since?

I left Radio Sheffield to take up a job in Leeds reporting sport up there. I also become a TV news reporter before turning my hand to reporting sport for TV. Eventually, I joined the new Look North in Hull as Sports Reporter, the job I still do now, but with a few more bells and whistles attached.

What are you best memories of your time at Radio Sheffield?

There are many funny moments but the oddest perhaps came after I had left. For one week only I was brought back to commentate on Rotherham rugby union's promotion play-off game at Bedford. Cutting a long story short the words "my buttocks are sore" came out. I thought it was in context but my fellow commentary team were left like tittering school kids. The best though was commentating on Jamie Hewitt's equaliser at Old Trafford in the FA Cup semi-final when Chesterfield played Middlesbrough.

How would you sum up your time at Radio Sheffield?

My time at Radio Sheffield was the best time of my career professionally and personally. I worked with the talent that is Bob Ballard and also the fantastically gifted - if slightly mad - Gareth Hampshire. Nobody could impersonate John Motson like Gareth, not even Motty.

Professionally consider this. When I was Sports Editor at Radio Sheffield, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United played in the Premier League. Wednesday also played in the UEFA Cup. Chesterfield reached the FA Cup semi final. Sheffield Eagles were a Super League club (Doncaster also played a season in the top flight too.) Sheffield Steelers played to full houses and usually won the Ice Hockey Superleague. Rotherham played in the Premiership of rugby union. And Now? What's gone wrong?

Bring me back, you know where I live. Actually don't bother, I'm watching Hull City in the Premier League.
