When my sister offered my girlfriend and I tickets to T4 On The Beach it only took a few seconds to decide after looking at the line-up. This year included pop princes McFly, princesses Girls Aloud, the crazy rapping of Dizzee Rascal, surprise guests Manic Street Preachers and headliners the Kaiser Chiefs. We travelled down from Yorkshire, driving the long way round due to the crazy floods on the M5. We parked on the wet beach, hoping that the sun would come out and at least we would be able to get out and not stuck! Armed with an umbrella and raincoats we were ready to join the huge queues. We found a spot out of the puddles to see June Sarpong, Miquita Oliver and Steve Jones open the show. The start of over six hours of music on three different stages. My girlfriend spotted Nicki Graham (the tiny former Big Brother screacher) obviously lost. She had her frown on after being directed the long way round to the VIP tent. First up was fun-loving Mcfly. The crowd loved the four lads who belted out Queen’ s classic Don’t Stop Me Now. We then stayed and watched the miserable Mutya Buena (the least attractive one from Sugababes) who was even more despondent than Big Brother’s Friday evictee Nicki. We then went to look around the site (to cheer ourselves up) which is a lot bigger than its initial appearance. The second stage which was presented by George Lamb featured a lot less mainstream music. The atmosphere was a lot calmer and mellowed. We chilled out on the grass and listened to brilliant guitarist Jamie Scott. He in the past has performed with Lemar and the Sugababes- he could well be one of the up and coming artists of this year. One of my personal highlights was watching The Twang on the smaller stage. The loveable Brummies played the immense Either Way. We also later saw The Hoosiers perform the catchy Worried About Ray which is one of the biggest songs so far this Summer. The Kaiser Chiefs closed the show Back on the main stage Akon, Calvin Harris, Just Jack and Maroon 5. After exploring the rest of the site where we picked up many a free giveaway (including a message of keeping the Earth green with a free "Act on C02" bag), interviewed for channel 4 radio and also watched a magician in amazement. We found a spot just above the hundreds of toilets on the grass where we could just about see the Main Stage. The Reverend played their best song Heavyweight Champion Of The World, while Sophie Ellis-Bexter played her one and only hit Murder on the dance floor. Girls Aloud was a crowd favourite for both sexes. The trendy girls played Something Kinda Ooh.Ìý Athlete and Manic Street Preachers also received a standing ovation from over 30,000 fans. Closing the show was Yorkshire's very own Kaiser Chiefs where main singer Ricky chanted Oh My God. The band opened the show two years ago and now they were headliners. This shows how big the Chiefs have become; in 2006 they picked up three Brit awards for best live act, best British rock act and best group. The whole day was well organised, the weather was great and all the bands performed their classic songs. I would definitely come back next year but I would bring some wellies as well as some sun cream. last updated: 23/07/07 You are in: Somerset > Entertainment and Leisure > Music > Reviews > Review: T4 On The Beach 2007 Delve deeper into the headlines here |
