Who are Diaspora? Mogadon on lead vocals and percussion; KC on vocals, lead guitar, percussion and harmonica; RC on guitars and vocals; Rip Van Dunne on rhythm guitar, banjo and vocals; Sleepy Boy Nelson on fiddle, cello and vocals; and Danny Boy on bass, whistles and vocals. Where in Somerset are you from? Bridgwater When did you form? In 1994 How did you get together? A fundraiser on St Patrick's night in Curry Rivel. In a moment of drunkeness, we declared undying love - as you do! For reasons of insanity, and the craic, we have stayed together. How would you describe your music? Modern Irish - ie lots of traditional stuff mixed with other influences and some rock. How did the band gets its name? Diaspora means scattering of the tribes. Being mostly of Irish descent, Mogadon told the rest of us the name seemed to fit. We didn't have any other bright ideas, so we all agreed - we haven't managed to come up with anything better since. Who are your musical influences? Traditional Irish music, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Saw Doctors, The Modfather. What is your most memorable gig so far? Whilst setting up in a university, we mostly had our backs to the auditorium. Mogadon announced that he would like to get his wife a T-shirt like that. We turned and fell silent as a young and very attractive woman - who we assume was a student - walked topless across the auditorium, whilst pushing an empty supermarket shopping trolley. It added a certain je ne sais quoi to the soundcheck. So, our most memorable gig is either that, or playing at Twickenham for the European Rugby Cup finals. Where would you most like to play? The Fleah Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself - We have played at the European Rugby Cup Finals at Twickenham when Munster played Leicester.
- We also played for Munster at the evening bash before they played Bath at the Memorial Ground - on both occassions Munster lost, and we have never been asked to play since!
- We're younger than the Rolling Stones.
- In 2006, Rip managed to glue his fingers together and injure himself pogoing - but not at the same time.
- We have made two CDs and appeared on 91热爆 Somerset Sound twice.
