"The record's called Little Man," says singer, songwriter and founder of the band, Bruce Soord.

"The tracks range from soft to pretty powerful rock, although it's not an album full of four-minute, structurally similar songs. It's very personal stuff really, but accessible."

Little Man

After starting out as a solo artist in 1999, touring in the UK and Europe and gaining a sizeable following along the way, Bruce Soord formed The Pineapple Thief in 2001.

"The Pineapple Thief may be a rock group, but we're different," says Bruce. "You have to listen to us really as it's difficult to put my music into words."

Generally only writing about the things he knows, Bruce was influenced by the events of his life over the past 12 months when making Little Man.

"My year was dominated by one event: the birth of my first child.ÌýSadly, our baby was born premature and only lived for five days.

"Half of the album reflects how I felt after that happened - trying to rationalise life, death and meaning (which isn't really possible).

"However, the album isn't bleak, as the songs can be interpreted in so many ways - I get e-mails from fans telling me how much my songs have helped them. Little Man advocates stoicism really."

The future

With the new album due out in November 2006, The Pineapple Thief are working hard on promoting it.ÌýThe band also has a series of big gigs planned for 2007, including some European dates.

And after that?

"Well, we've always said that this time next year, a private island in the Bahamas wouldn't be too much to ask," says Bruce.

"A compromise, I guess, would be to break through to six-figure sales.

"It's not a million miles away for us, but to do that we need help.ÌýLuckily, we've got a great fan base and street team, so who knows..."

Little Man is released on 27 November 2006 on Cyclops Records - the launch gig is on 4 November at Fiddlers in Bristol.ÌýVisit The Pineapple Thief's website for more details:
