More Silage

Meet the rambunctious More Silage from East Harptree - they may well be ill-rehearsed, but they play with gusto!

Who are More Silage?

Rob Handy on accordion, mandolin, bass, shaker, kazoo and vocals; Thomas Handy on guitar, banjo and vocals; David Buchanan on guitar, keyboard, bass and vocals; and Joel Campbell on drums, sax and general all-purpose rhythmic powerhouse.

Where in Somerset are you from?

East Harptree

When did you form?

2002

How did you get together?

We all lived next door to one another growing up.

How would you describe your music?

Funny, but not wacky or zany. Ill-rehearsed, but played with gusto. Rambunctious.

How did the band gets its name?

Our debut gig was supporting a band called More Mileage, so we took the name from them. A cheeky appropriation indeed!

Who are your musical influences?

The Beatles, Pogues, Divine Comedy, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, children's songs, computer game music, and numerous ro-diddly-oh folk bands. Plus The Wurzels.

What is your most memorable gig so far?

The annual Pirate Party in Barnstaple was certainly memorable. To look down from the stage and see a pub full of pirates, all dancing around to our set, swigging rum听and falling over each other, was hilarious. It felt like we'd travelled in time.

Where would you most like to play?

On the back of a tractor, driving through central Bristol on a Friday night.

Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself

  • Robert's dog loves the sound of barbershop singing.
  • Joel's favourite word is 'ounce' - try saying it!
  • Thomas claims to have invented the word 'f***' of his own accord, as a toddler.
  • David is petrified of being touched by sponges or foam.

Our album Farmer... Farmer No! will be out at the end of 2006. Our MySpace site will have more details - the link's on the right of this page.
