Who are Pacific Radio Fire? Andy on vocals, guitar and keys; Ben on lead guitar and kaoss pad; Klive on bass and theremin; and Rich on drums. Where in Somerset are you from? Bath When did you form?
2004 How did you get together? Ben and Andy are both from Birmingham and started making music together in college. The rest of the band was then formed when both moved to Bath to study at uni and to meet like-minded musicians. Rich lived with Ben, and Klive was stolen from another band. How would you describe your music? Ever-increasingly merging genres of rock, electronica and experimental music, whilst flirting with blues, ambient and post-rock sounds. Edgy, intense, energetic with powerful vocals. How did the band gets its name? It's the title of a short story by Andy's favourite author, Richard Brautigan.
It's about a man who's recently broken up with his partner. He sets fire to a radio on the beach in California, looking out on to the Pacific Ocean. Who are your musical influences? Artists such as Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Pink Floyd, The Mars Volta, Arcade Fire, Doves, Mogwai and Four Tet. What is your most memorable gig so far?
A gig at O'Neills in Bath. Great atmosphere, big crowd and some people singing along. Everything you'd ever want. Where would you most like to play? It will be great to do what we love the most, and push on and gig around the Bath and Bristol area. As far as dreams go, appearing on Later with Jools Holland (Ben would especially like to meet him) and to headline Glastonbury... or just to have anything to do with Glastonbury! Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself The famous LiveAid song was at number one when Andy was born. Is this the true reason behind the band's talent, which was somehow harnessed by this timeless anthem of modern musical history? Only time will tell. |
