March 2006 How did you get together? When I Wake formed after Rob and Jack were feeling stifled in their other bands, and wanted to create a sound based on their modern, and not-so-modern, influences. How would you describe your music? Cheesy metal. Songs about epic battles and dragons, and slaying beasts with weapons forged by the fires of the underworld. All that, plus screaming guitar solos, thundering rhythmic tones, soaring vocal melodies and pure harmonised riffage. How did the band gets its name? Jack woke up one morning and it just popped into his head. Simple! Who are your musical influences? Trivium, Iron Maiden, Bullet For My Valentine, Coheed and Cambria, Thrice, Metallica, Opeth, Funeral For a Friend, Dream Theater, Lamb of God, Story of the Year, Protest the Hero, Slayer and Pantera. Plus, most other metal, prog and rock bands. What is your most memorable gig so far? Winning a Battle Of The Bands competition in 2007 - the crowd was awesome and the judges loved it.
