Who are Subaphotic? - Chantal on keyboards, flute and programming
- Kevin on guitars, bass, vocals, keyboards, piano and programming
Where in Somerset are you from? Wellington When did you form? 2006 How did you get together? We're a daddy-and-daughter band. After years of making music on my own and with other bands, my daughter said she wanted to form a band with me for us to gig and record. How would you describe your music? Difficult to describe - it has been described as melodic, diverse, indie pop and that seems about right to us. How did the band gets its name? We wanted a name that came up with only us on search engines. Chantal saw the word 'aphotic' meaning 'without light'. We liked that, but then added 'sub' to it to make 'subaphotic'. Put that into search engines and only references to us come up. We're a Googlewhack! Who are your musical influences? Erm... David Bowie, Suede, Space, Radiohead, Blur, T-Rex, Godley and Creme, Pink Floyd, Super Furry Animals, Peter Gabriel, Mansun, Simple Kid, Tears For Fears, Queen, Lou Reed, Madness, John Lennon, Sherbet Antlers, Catatonia, The Bluetones, Ooberman, Pulp, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci... What is your most memorable gig so far? We haven't gigged yet. We've put our first album together - called Pix Elated - and are now rehearsing. Where would you most like to play? Glastonbury! Where else? Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself I've just had a novel published called Ankhst. It's fab! It's being put forward for a literature prize in 2007! Chantal helps run Cerys Matthews' website and MySpace space, and does the same for Liverpool band Ooberman. A couple of years ago, I toured England as an actor playing Mr Gruber in The Adventures of Paddington Bear. I also appeared as three separate people in the very last episode ever of Lovejoy. Both Chantal and I have won prizes in the past for our poetry. |
