Bath When did you form? Spring 2006 How did you get together? We were all in various other bands together, covering styles from disco to jazz. We decided we wanted to do something simple and groove-based, yet a little bit indulgent that would stretch us all a bit more. How would you describe your music? Smoky and soulful, with several pints of groove and the occasional drum 'n' bass chaser. How did the band gets its name? Well, Becca wanted the word 'pod' there somewhere because of her surname (ie a pod of whales). Then it turned out that a soulpod was a bit of a hip term in LA in the early '70s for your house/den/chillout zone, which seemed to describe the music pretty well. Who are your musical influences?

4Hero, Jill Scott, Alice Russell, Quantic Soul, Sly & the Family Stone, TM Juke, London Elektricity, Liane Carrol... What is your most memorable gig so far? It has to be the first one. Dale came down with a severe case of chicken pox two weeks before, and wasn't well enough to rehearse until the morning of the gig. This meant us spending four hours learning 18 tracks, three hours before we went on! Where would you most like to play? The Jazz World Stage at Glastonbury, on a sunny afternoon. Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself If the four of us were to lie end to end, we'd stretch halfway around our rehearsal studio. |
